By launching direct flights to Beijing, Tunisair prepares its arrival in China
The announcement of a possible inauguration of a direct air route between Tunis and Beijing marks a new stage in diplomatic, commercial and tourist relations between Tunisia and China. This initiative, mentioned during the recent visit of Tunisian President Kais Saied to China from May 28 to June 1, could soon become a reality, thus transforming the landscape of trade between the two nations.
During this official visit, fruitful discussions took place between President Saied and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, mainly focused on the creation of a direct link between the capitals of the two countries. This air route is seen as a potential vector for intensifying economic and tourist exchanges, thus strengthening the bridges between North Africa and Asia.
Khaled Chelly, CEO of Tunisair, shared more concrete information during his recent statements on national radio. According to him, the national airline would be ready to take the reins of this ambitious project. He specified that the company plans to launch regular and non-stop flights from Tunis to Beijing as early as next year.
To carry out this major project, Tunisair plans to strengthen its fleet by leasing a long-haul Airbus A330. This type of aircraft, known for its reliability and its ability to cover long distances, seems to be the ideal choice for such a connection. The call for tenders for the leasing of this aircraft should be launched soon.
