Nouvelair offers a service and solution for unaccompanied minors to travel on board its national and international flights.
The end of spring indicates that summer vacation is approaching
In July and August, families leave their homes to travel. However, there are cases where children must travel alone; Either because their parents need to work, or because they are going to summer camp, or because they are going to visit someone. In any case, there are a number of requirements for children to travel alone by plane.
For security reasons, the Tunisian company offers a babysitting service for minors traveling without an adult. During the documentation process (which parents have to go to), the minor becomes the responsibility of the airline.
From that moment on, someone from the company will stay with the child to go through security and reach the boarding gate. Unaccompanied minors are the first to get on the plane and the last to get off. At the destination airport, whether national or international, the staff in charge guide them throughout the migration, baggage claim and finally hand them over to the person previously designated in the arrivals area.
Parents or legal guardians must remain at the airport of origin for up to 15 minutes after the flight takes off, in the event of any flight delays or cancellations. And although in general terms this system works the same all over the world, each airline raises different conditions, age limits and costs for the service.
At Nouvelair, the rental of this service is compulsory for passengers aged 5 to 12; those between 15 and 17 can possibly rent it. It is necessary to reserve it a maximum of 48 hours before the flight, as there is a limit of UMNR on each route. Likewise, it should be considered that reservations are only authorized on routes operated by Tunisair. That is, it does not apply to codeshare connections.
For domestic flights operated by Nouvelair, only children aged five and over can travel alone. One of the parents or the legally responsible person must leave the child at the airport and sign a letter of responsibility at the office of the airline with which he will be traveling. At this point, the minor is handed over to a flight attendant with the necessary information about the person who will receive him in the other city. This procedure is carried out until the minor reaches the age of twelve. In the event that the child is under five years of age, the ticket of an accompanying hostess must be paid.
Traveling outside Tunisia?
For trips abroad, children must have the legalized authorization of their parents, a document that must be in writing, authenticating the signatures in front of a notary.
Abroad, the procedures are carried out before the consular authority of the country of destination. In the same way, the passport and the civil status of birth must be presented, in which appears the name of the parents. This permit is valid for four months.
If the child is traveling with one of the parents, the other must authorize the departure of the child. With regard to adopted children, the final judgment pronouncing their adoption must be presented.
It is important to keep in mind that even if children are traveling with their parents, the minor’s marital status and an authenticated exit permit are required. Each of these procedures should be performed until the youngster turns 18.
Do you want your child to travel without your presence with Nouvelair?
The Tunisian compagny requires the authenticated letter, civil status, passport and valid visa of children traveling; as well as the address, telephone number and information of the person who will pick up the child at the final destination.
In turn, the Tunisian transporter gives the children a transparent plastic bag to keep their personal documents and letters.
On Nouvelair planes, the little ones receive special treatment, a children’s menu, requested and reserved at the time of booking, personalized attention and they have games and magazines to entertain them during the trip.
